On November 11, 1918, the Central Powers of World War I surrendered to the Allied Powers at Francport in Northern France. The treaty officially went into force at 11 am (Paris time) on the 11th day of the 11th month. National French Week is scheduled every year in the week prior to Armistice Day, known more commonly in the U.S. as Veteran's Day.
